The first version of Dokoto is built around the JR Yamanote Line, the main train line that loops through the densest part of Tokyo. I will gradually add more neighborhoods as I am able to source more data.
Every neighborhood is scored based on its attractiveness in each category. I first sourced publicly available data from official and public sources. I then added my own personal opinions and created a system that is designed to show areas I think would best suit you based on what you're looking for.
I first went to Tokyo almost 20 years ago and as a young 20 something year old I was completely overwhelmed. I'm fortunate now to be able to go back a few times a year and while lots has changed since my first time, what hasn't changed, is how overwhelming and intimidating Tokyo can be for visitors.
Friends and family would always ask for my advice on where to stay and I loved being able to help out as much as I could. Most of what I saw available online was in the form of blogs or listicles, and while they're great, they don't really take into account exactly what you're looking for.
So that's why I created Dokoto. This is a mix of hard data that I scoured the web to find (from official and public sources) with an overlay of my personal experiences. I hope that it helps point you in the right direction to learn more or alternatively provides some reassurance that you're looking at the right areas.
